APM Consulting specializes in Automated People Mover (APM) systems. John Champ, the President and Founder of APM Consulting, has over 40 years of experience in the APM industry. Mr. Champ is the Immediate Past President and COO of Crystal Mover Services, Inc. (CMSI). CMSI is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc.’s (MHIA) operations and maintenance (O&M) company. Mr. Champ was the first U.S. employee hired by CMSI and led the development of the company’s successful O&M operations for over 13 years.

Mr. Champ began his APM career in 1977 as an employee of Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Transportation Division. Today the company is known as Alstom/Bombardier. During his 21 years with the company, he had personal involvement in the manufacture, inspection, testing, start-up, and O&M of many different APMs including the following:

In 1998, Mr. Champ joined the staff at Denver International Airport where he provided management and technical oversight of the APM. He is a past President of the International Airport Automated People Movers Association (IAAPMA) and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Automated People Mover Standards Committee. As a member of the Standards Committee, Mr. Champ helped develop many of the standards used in the APM industry today. In addition to Mr. Champ’s extensive O&M experience, he has been involved with APM design reviews, start-ups, acceptance testing and contract negotiations.
